SFTC Picks for Friday, March 15

A ton of streaks, including the overall leader, just lost with Michigan.  March is crazy!!!  All picks have been updated.

We had an OK day yesterday at 14 - 13, but there were quite a few crazy upsets yesterday.  Most of the losses were so close to being wins, too.

Just a reminder:  our basketball site is finished now, so please check it out by clicking on the Basketball Games tab near the top of the page.  We'd love it if you'd join our groups for any and all of the games listed in the Join Our Groups box as well.  We hope you enjoy the site as much as we love making it!

We have forgotten to do it the last few days, but props marked with a * are also featured on Streak It Up.

At this point, Our top 2 "stash" picks are:

  1. *NCAAM:  Michigan Wolverines
  2. *NCAAM:  Tennessee

Our picks for all props:
  1. *Golf:  Jason Day or Tie
    • We'll try the tie option one more time.  Yesterday the tie option lost both times.  Both of these golfers are so consistent, and especially over 9 holes its hard to not take the tie option.  Scott had a -2 and Day a -1 on the back 9 yesterday.  Usually the loser from the previous day wins the next.
    • Confidence: 50%
  2. NCAAM:  Miami wins by double digits
    • I'm actually taking Miami by double digits in this one.  I may be wrong, and if so, so be it.  Miami is favored by 8.  They only won by 1 at BC back in early January, but won by 22 at home in mid February.  Hanlan's performance from yesterday was a one-time deal.  I mean, where has that been all season?  Miami has much better defense than Georgia Tech, and you can bet they have been watching the game film of today.
    • Confidence:  70%
  3. *NCAAM:  Illinois win/single digit loss
    • Illinois beat Indiana by 2 on the road in their only meeting this year.  Illinois has been inconsistent this year, but did beat a very good Minnesota team yesterday thanks to Brandon Paul's buzzer beater.  Indiana hasn't played for a few days and will likely be a bit rusty.  If Illinois can get a lead early, they have a shot at winning this game.
    • Confidence:  70%
  4. *NCAAM:  Florida wins by 15+
    • Florida needs to make a statement and cruise through this tournament in order to bolster their seed and standing for the NCAA tournament.  They won by 22 on the road against LSU and are favored by 15 in this game.
    • Confidence:  60%
  5. Golf:  Sergio Garcia
    • Garcia beat Simpson by 2 strokes yesterday.  Simpson has just been bad recently and I don't trust his form right now.
    • Confidence: 60%
  6. *NCAAM:  Butler Bulldogs
    • Butler lost to La Salle by 1 on the road in their only meeting this season.  Butler has Rotnei Clark though, who can always stroke it from deep, and Brad Stevens always has his team ready come tournament time.
    • Confidence:  70%
  7. *NCAAM:  Michigan Wolverines
    • Do you remember Ben Brust's nearly half-court 3 to send the game against Michigan to overtime?  Wisconsin went on the win that game, the only meeting between these two this season.  Michigan has some surprising and heart-breaking defeats this season, but seem to be ready for this tournament.
    • Confidence:  70%
  8. NCAAM:  Virginia Cavaliers
    • Virginia is one of those teams on the bubble right now.  They have to win this game if they want a bid to the tournament.  Virginia beat NC State by 3 at home earlier this season.
    • Confidence:  50%
  9. *NCAAM:  Tennessee
    • Tennessee has been the better team of late.  These two split their regular season meetings, with each team winning at home.  The edge has to go to Tennessee since this is a virtual home game for them.
    • Confidence:  70%
  10. Tennis:  8 games or fewer
    • This is a tough one.  Djokovic hasn't lost more than 8 games in this tournament so far, but did lose exactly 9 in his most recent head-to-head with Tsonga.  This could really go either way.
    • Confidence: 40%
  11. *NHL:  New Jersey Devils
    • The SM must like the Devils, because they have been featured on here a lot lately.  They have done very well recently though, and the Flyers are headed in the opposite direction.  The Devils just beat the Flyers at home on Wednesday.  Can they do it again on the road?
    • Confidence: 60%
  12. NCAAM:  Maryland free throws made or tie.
    • Duke is favored by 11 in this game.  Maryland averages 12.8 free throws made per game.  With Kelly in the lineup, Duke beat Maryland by 20 at home.  Without Kelly, they lost by 2 on the road.  Maryland really needs to win this game in order to bolster their tournament hopes.  Duke will surely win, but I think Maryland takes this prop with the tie option.  I would love to see Duke win big though.
    • Confidence:  60%
  13. *NCAAM:  Georgetown Hoyas
    • Georgetown has dominated Syracuse both times they played this season.  They won by 11 on the road and by 22 at home.  Syracuse has had a good run in the tournament, but it ends here.
    • Confidence:  70%
  14. Other:  USA wins by 2+ runs
    • This is an elimination game for both teams.  USA beat Puerto Rico 7 - 1 the last time they played.  It will be Vogelsong pitching for the USA and Figueroa pitching for Puerto Rico.  David Wright will be out for this game, but the USA should cover without him.
    • Confidence: 60%
  15. NCAAM:  Otto Porter Jr. + Markel Starks
    • These two can definitely score.  Porter is the Hoya's leading scorer, at 16.5ppg.  Southerland has been doing well the last couple games, but Fair will bring him down in this prop.
    • Confidence:  70%
  16. *NCAAM:  Iowa St. 3 pointers made
    • Games like these can be so frustrating.  Take the Oregon vs Washington prop last night.  It was this same exact prop, and Oregon had it with the winning margin, but they Washington made two meaningless 3s at the end to give Washington the win on the prop.  This one could go the same way.  Iowa St. averages a nation-best 10 3-pointers made per game, but Kansas won their first meeting by 9 and the second by 12.  Since this is a conference tournament game, it could be a lot closer than the regular season games.  Iowa St. needs this win more than Kansas.
    • Confidence:  60%
  17. NCAAM:  Georgetown scores first in the 2nd half
    • You should just see who gets the ball to start the 2nd half and probably pick that team.  That is usually what happens in a prop like this.
    • Confidence:  40%
  18. NHL:  Calgary Flames
    • The Flames just seem to always win when they are featured on SFTC when they are at home.
    • Confidence: 50%
  19. *NCAAM:  New Mexico Lobos
    • The Lobos got smoked on the road in January, but won their home game against San Diego St. by 10.  They are favored by 2 in this game and have the better win/loss record.
    • Confidence:  60%
  20. NCAAM:  Louisville wins by double digits
    • Notre Dame has had an impressive tournament so far.  Louisville has been outstanding, and gets the big win here.  I'm predicting Georgetown vs. Louisville for the Big East championship game.
    • Confidence:  60%
  21. NCAAM:  North Carolina wins by double digits
    • This is pretty much a home game for North Carolina.  They have played well to end the season, except for their loss to Duke.  Florida St. has only played well at home.
    • Confidence:  60%
  22. NCAAM:  Oklahoma State
    • This really could go either way.  Each team won at home by 6 points in their regular season meetings.  Kansas State is favored by 2, but I think Oklahoma St. gets the win in a tight one.
    • Confidence:  50%
  23. NCAAM:  Oregon Winning margin
    • Utah has had an impressive tournament showing so far, including a big upset over Cal yesterday.  I think their run ends here.
    • Confidence:  60%
