I have posted a new poll on the left. I'd like to get a sense of what sport people that visit the site are most interested in. Please take time to vote! Just as a reminder, I will be getting the basketball portion of the site ready in the next day or so, so watch for the announcement for when it's fully ready!
Sorry I'm so late with these, but here are my picks for SFTC. The props marked with a * are those also featured on SIU.
My top 4 "stash" picks are:
- NCAAM: Georgetown Hoyas
- Golf: 68 or fewer
- NCAAM: Marquette wins by double digits
- NCAAM: Duke Blue Devils
- Soccer: Swansea City Win/Draw/Lose by 1
- Swansea is 8th in the league table, while West Brom is 9th. Last time they played each other, Swansea won at home 3 - 1. Swansea has done very well this season. They have beaten Arsenal, and drawn with Manchester United and Chelsea. Swansea is 10 - 10 - 8, while West Brom is 12 - 4 - 12.
- Confidence: 70%
- *NCAAM: Georgetown Hoyas
- What a game this should be! If you haven't already heard, this will be the last meeting between these two schools as conference rivals. Syracuse will be joining the ACC next year, and Georgetown will be part of the new "Catholic schools conference" which will retain the Big East name. Georgetown is going for their first Big East regular season title since 2008. They also beat Syracuse on the road by 11. Syracuse has struggled on the road, and I just feel that Georgetown will win this one at home, especially after being upset by Villanova a couple days ago.
- Confidence: 80%
- NCAAM: Providence Friars 3 pointers made or tie
- The line is dead even on this game. UConn beat Providence by 3 earlier in the season. Providence averages 5.75 3-pointers made per game, and has done pretty well in conference play, beating Notre Dame, Cincinmati, and Villanova twice. This same prop was featured a few days ago with UConn and South Florida and I got burned taking UConn winning margin, so I'm going with Providence here.
- Confidence: 80%
- NCAAM: Mercer Bears
- I know next to nothing about these teams. From the research I've done, they split their regular season games and are the top 2 in their conference. It is basically a home game for Mercer, which is why I'm giving them the edge here.
- Confidence: 50%
- NCAAM: Kentucky 3 pointers made or tie
- I may end up getting burned for this pick, and if so, so be it. It is well documented how much Kentucky is struggling right now. However, their struggles have been on the road. They are 15 - 2 overall and 7 - 1 against SEC teams at home this season. This is do or die time for Kentucky if they want any shot of making the tournament. This can be dangerous for Florida. Interesting stat: Florida has not won at Rupp Arena since 2007.
- Confidence: 60%
- *NHL: Washington Capitals
- The Caps have been on a roll lately, winning 8 of their last 11. They have beaten the Islanders twice this season.
- Confidence: 70%
- Golf: 68 or fewer
- Tiger shot a 66 in round 1 and a 65 in round 2. I see no reason to take 69 or more for round 3. He has an outstanding history at this tournament.
- Confidence: 80%
- NCAAM: Texas A&M win or single digit loss
- Arkansas is favored by 8, but have not been playing well of late. Texas A&M beat Arkansas by 18 at home last time they played.
- Confidence: 70%
- NCAAM: N.C. State winning margin
- Florida St. averages just under 6 3s per game. N.C. State beat them at home by 22. The current line is N.C. State -4. Florida St. has definitely played better at home than on the road, but have lost at home to the top teams in the conference by double digits.
- Confidence: 70%
- NCAAM: Marquette wins by double digits
- Marquette is riding a 3 game win streak heading into this game, and would love to have the outright Big East title. To do that, they have to win this game, but also need Georgetown and Louisville to lose. St. Johns will still be without De'Angelo Harrison, but will also be without Sir'Dominic Pointer because of his suspension due to his punching Biedsheid of Notre Dame in their last game.
- Confidence: 80%
- *NCAAM: Notre Dame free throws made or tie
- Does everyone remember that 5 OT game between Notre Dame and Louisville a few weeks ago? What a game that was. Hopefully this one is just as exciting! Louisville is favored by 13 and Notre Dame averages 12.5 free throws made per game. I expect this to hopefully be within single digits though.
- Confidence: 80%
- *NCAAM: Tennessee
- Tennessee is favored by 1, which doesn't mean much. Missouri just beat Arkansas by 30 at home, but is just 2 - 7 on the road this season. Tennessee is 6 - 2 at home against SEC teams this season.
- Confidence: 50%
- NHL: St. Louis Blues
- The Sharks are horrid on offense lately. The Blues, with their newly formed top line, seem to have found even more scoring than they had before. I just don't think the Sharks can score enough to keep up with the Blues, even though they are at home.
- Confidence: 60%
- *NCAAM: Baylor 3 pointers made
- This is a must-win game for Baylor if they want any shot at making the tournament. Although they got blown out by Kansas on the road, Kansas is only favored by 4 in this game. Baylor averages just over 7 3s made per game. Baylor has lost 5 of their last 6 games, but I think they come into this game with their backs against the wall and give it everything they have.
- Confidence: 50%
- NHL: Carolina Hurricanes
- A couple days ago I said if the Devils lost, I would not pick them anymore. They actually ended up winning that game, but it was against the Sabres and it was at home. I think Carolina is too much for them here.
- Confidence: 60%
- *NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
- Kunitz and the Pens are on fire right now! I like their win streak to continue in this one.
- Confidence: 60%
- NHL: Montreal Canadiens
- Both of these teams have been good for greens lately, although Tampa Bay lost last night at home.
- Confidence: 50%
- *NBA: Brooklyn Nets
- The Hawks have lost 4 of their last 5. Derron Williams and the Nets have been playing much better of late. They have not won in Atlanta since 2008, but I think their streak ends tonight.
- Confidence: 60%
- Soccer: New England Revolution win or draw
- The Revolution have not played yet this year, but did beat Chicago 1 - 0 at the end of last season. Chicago has played once, and lost 4 - 0 to the Galaxy. I like the Revolution, especially with the draw option here.
- Confidence: 60%
- *NHL: Dallas Stars
- Dallas has been really finding a rhythm lately, and just beat the Kings 5 - 2 on Thursday. The Coyotes have really been struggling at the goalie spot. Dallas has won 3 straight, and I think their streak continues here.
- Confidence: 70%
- NHL: Nashville Predators
- I'm just feeling the Predators in this game. These teams have split their two previous games this season. I just give the edge to the Predators since they are at home.
- Confidence: 50%
- *NCAAM: Duke Blue Devils
- Ryan Kelly has been more than a spark of new life for the Blue Devils. Duke won the first meeting with North Carolina by 6 without Kelly. North Carolina has been playing very well as of late, but I just think Duke pulls out a close win.
- Confidence: 70%
- NCAAM: Yes at least one team leads by 5+ points at halftime
- This prop indicates that the SM is predicting a very tight game. A 5 point lead is not that much though, so I'm going yes in this one.
- Confidence: 50%
- NCAAM: Whichever team is down/gets the ball to start
- This prop is a total tossup. I would go with whichever team is down and/or gets the ball first to start the 2nd half. Check back for updates on this one.
- Confidence: 50%
