Streak for the Cash picks for April 9

Great news!  @ESPNStreak, the official Twitter handle for ESPN's Streak for the Cash game, gave us a RT for our site link today!  As a result, we've gotten a lot of new visitors to the site in the last few hours.  Thank you for visiting our site.  We welcome you!  If any of you do not currently play ESPN's Streak for Cash or Streak It Up, which games these posts are based on, you can sign up for free for Streak for the Cash here and Streak It Up here.  We also invite you to join our groups and follow us on Twitter.  Thank you so much for those who have followed us, joined our groups, and left comments.  We appreciate the support!

As many of you are new to the site, here's a brief explanation about it.  On this main page we post our daily picks for Streak for the Cash.  Many of these picks are also featured on the game Streak It Up, though we do not give write-ups for all of the props on Streak It Up.  At the top of the page are tabs that link to our other "sites" that we have created for the fantasy games we cover.  They are divided by sport.  Basketball season is almost over, though we will most likely be doing analysis for ESPN's new game 1-N-Done, which is based on the NBA playoffs, which start in 11 days.

We also cover the game Beat the Streak on our baseball site.   We give 4 or 5 picks each day for you to choose from.  So far we are 16 - 6 in our BTS picks, so be sure and click on the Baseball Games tab to check them out.

Our site is co-authored by Clark Stonehocker and James Lee.  For our Streak for the Cash picks, Jim does the soccer and NBA picks and Clark does everything else, except Tennis, which a friend, Steve Truman, does for us.  You can read more about this site by clicking on the About this Site tab above.  Again, thanks for visiting, and we wish you the best of luck with your picks!

The props marked with a * are featured on both Streak for the Cash and Streak It Up.  Otherwise these are all picks for Streak for the Cash.

A couple of our picks that we didn't get added in time are Sonderjyske win or draw and Detroit Tigers.  We apologize that we didn't get these added sooner.  They were added to the prop list late.

Our top "stash" picks:
  1. Soccer: United States Win by 2+
  2. MLB:  Cincinnati Reds
Our picks for all props:
  1. Soccer: United States Win by 2+
    • United States Womens Soccer Team = Best in the world.
Netherlands Women's Soccer = Not best in the world.
I have to pick the best team in the world to beat the team that is not the best.  The Netherlands has only won 1 of the 5 matches they have had this year.  US ladies should win easily and probably by several (like 2 or 3) goals.
    • Confidence: 70%
  2. *Soccer: Real Madrid Win
    • I made the mistake last time of saying that Real Madrid would not win by 3 or more goals.  Well, they did.  In leg two of this Champion's League quarter final match, most teams with a 3-0 lead would likely play back and only attack on the counter, but this is Real Madrid, this is Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo. I don't know if RM will win by 3 again, but I'd be shocked if they did not win.
    • Confidence: 80%
  3. Soccer: Yes Real Madrid Leads at half time
    • This is tough because even though RM is better than Galatasaray and should score early and often, they do have a 3-0 lead and do not have much motivation to go on the attack, there is a chance that they will choose to sit back and play a defensive minded match, but if Real can score one goal in this Match on the road, they will essential ruin any hope that Galatasary has.  GS would then have to win this game 5-1 to have a chance of advancing.  I believe Real will get a goal in the first half and then coast their way into the semi-finals.
    • Confidence 50%
  4. Soccer: Malaga, Win, Draw or lose by 1
    • Dortmund and Malaga drew in the first meeting last week and although this match is on the road, I don't expect Dortmund to run away with the victory.  Dortmund is in second place in the Bundesliga and is probably the better squad, I think they will win, but I expect it to be a 1-0 or a 2-1 game.
    • Confidence 50%
  5. Soccer: Yes Galatasaray will score in the second half
    • Being down 3-0, GS will be absolutely desperate and will attack the net as frequently as possible.  They will need to put many shots on target to give them a chance for a put back shot or a finish off a cross into the box.  With Drogba and Sneijder, I have to assume that at some point, GS will find the back of the net in their many desperation attempts.
    • Confidence 50%
  6. *MLB:  Los Angeles Dodgers
    • I know baseball is unpredictable, but I just can't see picking against the Dodgers in this one.  The Dodger definitely have the better pitcher in this matchup.  In Beckett's (4.53ERA) only other start this season, he went 6 innings, with 4 Ks, giving up 6 hits, in a 5 - 3 loss to the Giants.  In Richard's (14.53ERA) only other start this season, he only went 4 innings, with 1 K, giving up 7 hits and 7 errors, in an 8 - 4 loss to the Mets.  The Dodgers have not had a road game yet this year, and this is the Padres' home opener, but the Padres are just 1 - 5 so far, and I doubt their next win comes in this one at home.
    • Confidence:  80%
  7. *NHL:  San Jose Sharks
    • The Sharks are playing extremely well right now, going 8 - 1 - 1 in their last ten.  The Blue Jackets: not so much (just 5 - 4 - 1 in their last 10).  Of slight concern is that the Sharks are just 6 - 10 - 2 on the road this season, but they lead the Blue Jackets in nearly every statistical category, and should get the win here.
    • Confidence:  70%
  8. NHL:  New York Islanders
    • This is a tough pick.  Both of these teams have very similar statistics in every category and similar records.  Both are also battling for a playoff spot.  I'm giving the edge to the Islanders here because they are at home.
    • Confidence:  50%
  9. NHL:  Ottawa Senators
    • This is a risky pick, as the Senators have lost 4 in row.  There is also an interesting story line in that the Lightning's goalie was Ottawa's backup goalie, and Ottawa's new forward used to be with the Lightning as of a week ago or so.  Craig Anderson is in net for Ottawa, and I like Ottawa to get out of their losing funk.
    • Confidence:  50%
  10. NHL:  St. Louis Blues
    • The Blues have been playing very good hockey lately, winning 4 straight, and going for their first 5 game winning streak of the season.  They beat Nashville twice in January and lost once on February 5.  They just beat the Red Wings on the road in a close one.  Look for the same here, as 4 of the last 5 matchups in Nashville have gone to shootouts.
    • Confidence:  70%
  11. *NHL:  Chicago Blackhawks
    • The Blackhawks are going to the playoffs for a 5th consecutive year.  They have the edge over Anaheim for the lead in the Western conference.  The Wild really want to win this and improve their playoff position.  They have also had success against the Blackhawks this season, winning the last two against them at home.  However, with the Wild missing their star forward Dany Heatley due to injury, the Blackhawks should get the win here.
    • Confidence:  70%
  12. MLB:  Texas Rangers
    • I'm a little nervous about this pick because there are no stats available for the Rangers' pitcher, Nick Tepesch.  All I could find about him was that the Rangers drafted him in 2010.  The Rays will counter with Roberto Hernandez (5.40ERA), who went 6 innings, with 7Ks and 4 errors, giving up 6 hits in a 6 - 3 loss to the Orioles.  I think the Rangers definitely have more talented hitters, so if their pitcher doesn't get blasted, they should win this game.
    • Confidence:  60%
  13. Soccer: Santos Laguna Win by 2+
    • Santos beat Seattle last week in the Emerald City 1-0 in front of one of the loudest crowds in the MLS.  A week later, back in Mexico, nothing makes me think that Santos will not win by at least 2 goals.  The Sounders are in last place in the MLS West and have yet to show any promise.  And lets face it, any time a Mexican crowd gets to cheer against anything American, they will do so, very loud on right on the backs of the Sounders.
    • Confidence 60%
  14. MLB:  Cincinnati Reds
    • The Reds have not won the first two games of a series against the Cardinals since 2006.  However, there are a few reasons to take the Reds in this one.  First:  Bronson Arroyo (4.50ERA) won his first start, going 6 innings with 5Ks, while Lance Lynn(9.00ERA) lost his first start, going only 4 innings with only 3Ks.  Second: The Reds are on a tear at the plate lately, batting at .343 with 11 doubles and 8 homers, and outscoring opponents 40 -14.  Third: the Reds just creamed the Cardinals yesterday with a 9-run 9th inning, winning 13 - 4.
    • Confidence:  80%
  15. *NHL:  Los Angeles Kings
    • The Kings have had tremendous success against the Stars, going 11 - 1 - 2 in their last 14 visits to Dallas.  They have won the last two there, and would love to get another as the playoff race out West is very tight.
    • Confidence:  70%
  16. NCAAW:  Any Other Result
    • In their lone meeting this season, UConn beat Louisville at home by 14.  That was clear back on January 15.  I don't think there's any doubt that UConn wins this game.  History is on their side.  They are 7 - 0 in national championship games, and have won the last 12 against Louisville.  Louisville though, behind their star guard Shoni Shimmel, has definitely been the surprise of this women's tournament.  If they win, they would be the lowest seed to ever win the women's tournament.  They have beaten Baylor, Tennessee, and Cal to get to this game, and will be a test for UConn.
    • Confidence: 80%
  17. NCAAW:  Shoni Shimmel points scored or tie
    • I'm not too sure about this one.  Shimmel averages 16.5 points per game, or 8.25 points per half.  In Louisville's last game, they were down 10 at the half.  For Louisville to win this game, they can't afford to have that kind of deficit at halftime.  I think they keep it close enough for Shoni to win this prop with at least the tie.
    • Confidence: 60%
  18. *NBA: OKC Thunder
    • The Jazz need every possible win to fight off the Lakers, but the Thunder are in a similar situation, they too need every win possible to overtake the Spurs for first out west.  There is no question about which team is better and which team should win, the only question is whether desperation + a crazy Utah crowd will carry the Jazz to a win. Uhh, I just don't see it.
    • Confidence: 60%
  19. MLB:  Arizona Diamondbacks
    • The Pirates won the first game of this series yesterday 5 - 3.  They have the better pitcher in this game, but the DBacks have the better offense, and I doubt they lose 2 straight at home.
    • Confidence:  60%
  20. NCAAW:  37 points or fewer
    • Women's games are usually much lower scoring than men's games, although UConn can definitely score.  38 though is quite a bit, and Louisville's defense tends to be stronger in the 2nd halves of games.  I'd wait to see how the first half goes though, and check back, as our pick may change.
    • Confidence: 60%
  21. MLB:  Seattle Mariners
    • The Astros are off to the worst start in baseball, at 1 - 6.  Their pitcher for this game, Erik Bedard, only went 3 innings with 2Ks and a hit in their lone win of the season.  Seattle's starter, Brandon Mauer, had a rough first start, with only 1 K and giving up 8 hits and 6 errors over 6 innings in an 8 - 2 loss to Oakland.  I think Mauer bounces back tonight and helps his team get a second straight over the Astros at home.
    • Confidence:  60%
