A new month! SFTC picks for June 1

After a rough month in May, I think we're all ready for a fresh start tomorrow.  There are some great picks on the board!  All of our writeups are included below, except for the evening NBA and MLS picks, which Jim will do write-ups for shortly.

Now that school is completely over for the year and summer is upon us, we will be posting regularly (every day) on the site, so be sure you come back often and check it out!  We'll also be developing a completely new site on our own this summer.  Our goal is to have it done in time for football season and all of the great fantasy games that come along with it.  It is kind of a ways out, but we just want to let you know so you can help us spread the word.  We're also open to suggestions about how we can make the site better or what you would like to be included in the new site.  So please leave a comment or send us a tweet to @TheFantasySC.

We're also looking for more members to join our groups and are open to suggestions about how to make the group experience more enjoyable, so please share.

Let's go June, and Good Luck!

Our top stash picks:
  1. Tennis:  Rafael Nadal
  2. Soccer: Bayern Munich
  3. NHL:  Pittsburgh Penguins

Our picks for every prop:
  1. Tennis:  Rafael Nadal
    • Nadal is the defending champ and a 7-time French Open winner even if he hasn't looked his best thus far. Fognini, the Italian has played well to get this far in the tournament but his luck has just run out. It'll be a good day if he takes a set like Nadal's previous two opponents.
    • Confidence: 98%
  2. Tennis:  Jelena Jankovic
    • These two top players have met 8 times in their respective careers. Jankovic has won 6 times and the three most recent. They have split the two times they have played on clay with Jankovic getting the most recent match up in Stuttgart. Stosur has been good not great as of late and it really feels like Jankovic is starting to find her top form again. Jankovic pulls this match out to advance.
    • Confidence: 65%
  3. Soccer: Real Madrid wins by 2+
    • Real Madrid is 2nd in the league table behind Barcelona.  Osasuna is 16th in the league table.  Despite these two playing to a 0 - 0 draw at Osasuna back in January, with Real Madrid at home and heavily favored, I'll take them to win by 2+.
    • Confidence: 70%
  4. Other:  Tennessee Lady Volunteers
    • Without much emphasis on this sport, and no regular season props or TV spots, it's tough to get much information about women's softball.  Washington just barely escaped against Nebraska with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 8th.  Tennesse beat the #2 seed Florida Gators easily, 9 - 2.  Tennessee is the "home" team for this game (all of these games are played in Oklahoma City), and since they have the better record and won easily against the #2 seed, I'm taking them to win this game and advance.
    • Confidence: 70%
  5. Soccer: Bayern Munich
    • Stuttgart has only beaten Bayern 7 times since 1999 (40 matches), and the last time they won was 2010, or 3 years ago.  Since then, Bayern has outscored Stuttgart 27 to 9.  Bayern has been unstoppable of late.  Who can ignore their shalacking of Barcelona and their awesome Champions League win?  They are heavily favored for this match and should win easily!  This has got to be one of the easiest picks other than the Nadal pick this morning!
    • Confidence: 95%
  6. Other:  Oklahoma wins by 3+ runs
    • Oklahoma is the #1 scoring team in the nation, and have covered the spread in every prop they've been featured in on Streak for the Cash.  They have won their last 9 nine games by an average of 7.8 runs.  They did play Texas 3 times in the regular season and won the first by 5 runs, lost the second, and won the third by 2 runs, but those games were at Texas.  This game is in Oklahoma City, so Oklahoma will have a huge home field advantage.
    • Confidence: 75%
  7. Soccer: Peru win or draw
    • These teams have not met since 2011, and have only met 4 times dating back to 2006.  They have each won two of those games, one at home and one on the road.  Panama is just very slightly favored to win, but the draw pick in these international friendlies have won more often than not (Nigeria and Slovenia yesterday are just a couple of examples).
    • Confidence:  65%
  8. MLB:  Detroit Tigers
    • The Tigers let the win slip away last night, as their closer couldn't hold the lead and they lost thanks to a 3-run shot in the bottom of the 9th.  They now send Verlander to the mound.  Although he has not been great lately, going 2 - 2 with an 8.69 ERA in his last 4 starts, he is 7 - 0 with a 2.85 ERA in his last 11 starts against the Orioles.  The Tigers are favorites at -137, and Verlander should get things turned around by continuing his dominance over the Orioles.
    • Confidence: 70%
  9. MLB:  Oakland A's
    • The A's beat the White Sox 3 - 0 yesterday thanks to a great perfomance from Colon.  They now send Straily to the mound who is 3 - 2 with a 5.08 ERA on the season.  The White Sox counter with Quintana who is 3 - 2 with a 3.75 ERA on the season.  Although Straily has a worse ERA, the A's are favorites at -150 and should get another win at home.
    • Confidence: 65%
  10. MLB:  Philadelphia Phillies
    • To say the Brewers had a rough month in May would be a huge understatement.  They went just 6 - 22 in May, and although they got a rare win against the Phillies yesterday, they will be hard pressed to get another one in this game.  They send Willy Peralta to the mound who is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation after going 0 - 4 with a 8.15 ERA over his last 3 starts and ranks among the league leaders at runs allowed on the season with 48.  The Phillies counter with Tyler Cloyd who is 1 - 1 with a 5.74 ERA.  The Phillies are only slight favorites at -108, but with them being at home and Peralta struggling so much lately, they should get a win here.
    • Confidence: 65%
  11. MLB:  Colorado Rockies
    • The Rockies and Dodgers have played 4 times this season, alternating wins and each team winning 2 games.  The Dodgers won in extra innings yesterday, so following the trend, the Rockies should win today.  They have a great chance to do so with Chacin on the mound.  He is 3 - 3 with a 3.90 ERA on the season, while Greinke is 2 - 1 with a 4.38 ERA on the season.  The Rockies are favorites at -122.
    • Confidence: 70%
  12. MLB:  Miami Marlins
    • I can't believe I'm actually picking the Marlins to win a game.  If they're going to win again though, this is a good chance for them to do so.  They will send Jose Fernandez to the mound who is 2 - 3 with a 3.78 ERA on the season.  The Mets counter with Collin McHugh, who has a 12.00 ERA, and has only made two relief appearances since being called up from Triple-A ball on May 14.  Another storyline for this game is Marcell Ozuna's 16-game hitting streak.  Will he get to 17?
    • Confidence: 70%
  13. NHL:  Chicago Blackhawks
    • This should be a hard, tough series.  Both of these teams had a tough fight in their last series though, with both going to 7 games.  Both goalies have pretty similar numbers, but Quick for the Kings has been just a little bit better.  The Blackhawks have been great at home though, and will want to really take advantage of the home-ice advantage, especially with the first two games of this series being played back-to-back.
    • Confidence: 60%
  14. Other:  Florida Gators
    • After getting beat soundly by Tennessee, the Gators should rebound against Nebraska.  I just don't think Nebraska can pull off the upset.  Florida clearly has the better record and better team.
    • Confidence: 70%
  15. MLB:  New York Yankees
    • With Texeira and Youkilis back in the Yankees lineup, they look poised to turn from their losing ways and start winning games.  Yesterday was a great start.  Phil Hughes has been good against the Red Sox,winning his last 3, including a 1.27 ERA and giving up no earned runs over his last 2.  The Red Sox counter with Felix Doubront, who has not won in his last 5 starts.
    • Confidence: 70%
  16. MLB:  Atlanta Braves
    • The Braves lead the season series 5 - 3.  They won the first 5 but have lost the last 3.  They lost a close one yesterday.  With the Nationals having so many injuries and the Braves being favored at -137, it's hard not to take the Braves.  Although Gonzales has been great for the Nationals and Hudson has struggled a bit, I just don't see there the Nationals offense will come from.
    • Confidence: 70%
  17. Other:  Any Other Result
    • South Carolina and Liberty played 3 times this season back in mid February.  South Carolina won 2 of those games, but only by 1 run, and lost the third by 1.  Liberty just upset Clemson yesterday 8 - 3.  Even though South Carolina is at home for this game, nothing convinces me that they'll win by 3+.
    • Confidence: 75%
  18. NHL:  Pittsburgh Penguins
    • It seems like forever since the Penguins have played.  They won both of their previous playoff series pretty easily.  They also won all three season meetings against the Bruins, two at home and one on the road.  They have home-ice advantage for this series again, and should start out another series with a win at home.
    • Confidence: 75%
  19. NBA:  Indiana Pacers
    • The Pacers are one of only two teams that had a winning regular season record against the Heat.  They should have won the last game, they just didn't play very well down the stretch in the 2nd half.  So now they'll have to win tonight and then try and win a game 7 in Miami.  I don't know how much the absence of Chris Anderson will have an impact, but it's one less big man for Miami, and they should struggle even more than they normally do against Indiana's inside game.  The Pacers take this one, but I think they'll probably lose game 7 in Miami
    • Confidence: 70%
  20. NBA:  Any Other Player
    • The Pacers just have too many other scoring threats.  My guess is that it will Hibbert or West.
    • Confidence: 75%
  21. Soccer: Montreal Impact win or draw
  22. NBA:  23 points or fewer
    • The 2nd quarter has not been the Heat's quarter in this series.  They ususally come out better in the 3rd and 4th quarters.  Indiana plays their best defense in the first halves of their games as well.
    • Confidence: 70%
  23. Soccer:  FC Dallas win or draw
  24. NBA:  3 or more
  25. Other:  Michigan Wolverines
    • The Wolverines and Sun Devils met only once this season, with the Wolverines winning 5 - 4.  The Sun Devils will most likely have Escobido on the mound, who is normally pretty good, but she got rocked by the Longhorns in her last game.  Michigan also is the "home" team, so I'll roll with them to win.
    • Confidence: 60%
  26. MLB:  Los Angeles Angels
    • Although the Astros lead the season series 4 - 3 and beat the Angels yesterday, I just can't pick against the Angels being -220 favorites and them having Jerome Williams on the mound.  He is 4 - 1 with a 2.58 ERA on the season.  The Astros counter with Bud Norris who is 4 - 4 with a 3.71 ERA on the season.
    • Confidence: 70%
  27. MLB:  Toronto Blue Jays
    • I'm not really confident in this pick, but the Blue Jays are favorites at -115 and send Buehrle to the mound, who has done a great job for them this year.  San Diego won yesterday, which was the first time the teams have met this season.
    • Confidence: 55%
