STFC Picks May 7

Feliz 7 de Mayo.  Sorry we have not made picks for a few days, but after a 2 day hangover after cinco de Mayo, we are back and better than before.  Ok, so we probably aren't better and are basically just the same as always, maybe even a little worse, but so what.  We are hear to help you get to 27 straight picks.  So we hope we can help you just a little bit.
Since sadly this is not our full time job, we are not able to dedicate as much time as we would like currently to writing out all our predictions.  So instead, here are just a few picks that you're gonna wanna take.

1) Soccer: Wigan Win
There are few things is this world more motivating that desperation.  At this moment, Wigan is very very desperate.  They are currently sitting in the relegation zone but are just 2 points behind Sunderland.  A win here against Swansea would be huge.  The Swans are still towards the top of the table but have not won a match since March 2.  A draw would not surprise me in this match, but Wigan cannot settle for a single point, they need to get all 3.

2) Soccer: West Brom Win, draw, or lose by 1
Don't get me wrong, I am not picking against my favorite club, I think City will win this draw, but I think it will likely be by a score of 1-0.  They have a much more important match awaiting them this weekend in the FA Cup final and will likely sit a few of their stars, allowing them to rest before the match with Wigan.  For that reason, I would not be surprised if the game ended in a draw.  City does not have much to play for right now except respect, but that just be what they need to be motivated.

3) NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pens have gotten a lot more fight from the Islanders than I think they expected.  But after 3 games, I expect Pittsburgh to play like they did during the regular season and take a 3-1 lead in the series.

4) NBA: Memphis Grizzlies
There is rarely such thing as a good loss (especially for Golden State last night losing after having a 16 point lead with less than 4 min remaining).  But the Grizzlies loss in game 1 may have been just that.  They saw that they can hang with the defending western conference champs and if it wasn't for the miraculous Kevin Durant down the stretch, Memphis may have won that first game.  I expect another close one, but I think the Grizzlies steal a game on the road in route to winning this series.

5) MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks
Take a look at tonight's pitching matchup:

Starting Pitchers
Arizona: McCarthy (0-3, 7.22 ERA)
Los Angeles: Beckett (0-4, 5.24 ERA)

So there should be plenty of runs scored in this matchup of two struggling pitchers.  But the Dodgers are hurting, with plenty of injury problems, they are desperate to end their current 5 game losing streak and get out of last place in the NL West.  But the D-Backs have looked like the better team as of late and should get the win against Beckett.
