Now on to sports. Since I have a final early in the morning, I will post the remaining write-ups later. We wish you the best of luck!
Our top stash pick:
- NBA: Any other result
- Soccer: Giannina win/draw
- Perhaps people are overlooking the fact that Asteras Tripolis has beaten Giannina 4 straight times, the most recent being a 2-1 win on the road on March 3. I think most people are just taking the win/draw option at home. I believe Tripolis is without their leading scorer, and they already have 2 points in this playoff competition due to how they finished the season. I'm taking the draw, but wouldn't risk a big streak on this, especially given Tripolis' success against Giannina.
- Confidence: 50%
- MLB: Baltimore Orioles
- What a way to lose a game yesterday! The Orioles' closer hadn't blown a save in 35 straight games. The Orioles are favorites at -160 and their starting pitcher, Freddy Garcia would love nothing more than to get a win against the team that released him during the spring. John Marquis has had some success lately for the Padres, but he is 0 - 1 with a 10.80 ERA in three starts against the Orioles. The O's get revenge for yesterday.
- Confidence: 70%
- MLB: Chicago White Sox
- I'm really undecided on this one. Going by pitcher stats, Chicago should win. Going by this season's games results, Minnesota should win. The White Sox also haven't won 2 in a row in over two weeks. The line favors Chicago, and Minnesota's Pelfrey's stats are not good, so I'm taking the White Sox here to win.
- Confidence: 55%
- Soccer: Benfica
- Currently on SFTC almost 95% of people are picking Chelsea to win this game. I truly have no idea why I am picking Benfica. The Portuguese side are in a battle for the league title and would love to add a Europa title as well. Benfica is led by the Albanian striker Lima and his fellow front man Oscar Cardozo who have a combined 34 goals this season. Benfica has a goal difference of 55 goals in the Portuguese Liga. Now to give Chelsea their dues, they too are good, but I worry that too many people are underestimating how good Benfica is and I think we see an upset today. For Chelsea, playing in the Europa final a year after winning the Champions League is like the Miami Heat playing for a D-League title after winning the NBA title last year. Or like Michael Phelps winning the Gold Medal in the Olympics one year and the next year swimming in the North Dakota State High School Championship swim meet. One might question how excited Chelsea can really be to be playing in the Europa final. Let's be honest, Chelsea will probably win, but I had to pick the upset.
- Confidence: 50%
- Soccer: Either team leads
- With the scoring ability of both Benfica and Chelsea I believe there will be goals scored in the first half of this final. I don't expect both teams to come out flat and dead. I'm not sure what kind of lineup the two sides will play and if they will look to attack to wait and play off the counter attack. But I think both teams will be looking to score early. As it often is in these kinds of matches, the first goal may prove to be critical. Someone will score in the first half and I think someone will take a lead into the half.
- Confidence: 50%
- Soccer: 2 or more
- For all the reasons mentioned above, these two teams know how to put the ball in the net. If there are any nerves or cold feet in the first half, it'll all be gone by the second half and there will be some goals scored. If there is a goal with a net, these teams will find a way to score.
- Confidence: 50%
- MLB: Seattle Mariners
- Hernandez had the lead yesterday, but his team couldn't hold it. Iwakuma has been just as good if not better than Hernandez, he just hasn't gotten quite the recognition. Hughes has been good in his last couple starts, his overall stats aren't very good. What's kept New York in games and helped them win is their bullpen. I think the Mariners steal one here though.
- Confidence: 55%
- MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates
- I'm really undecided on this one, similar to the White Sox and Twins game. Milwaukee has had the Pirates' number lately, but Gallardo has been inconsistent at best this season. I think the Pirates win another close one. I just don't trust Gallardo.
- Confidence: 55%
- MLB: Boston Red Sox
- The Red Sox have been reeling lately, but I think they get back to winning with Lester tonight. Lester has been spectacular, going 5 - 0 with a 2.73 ERA. Price has only 1 win so far this season, going 1 - 3 with a 4.78 ERA.
- Confidence: 65%
- MLB: Toronto Blue Jays
- I just can't pick the Giants with Voglesong on the mound.
- Confidence: 70%
- NBA: Any other result
- The Bulls do better in odd number games. They won game 7 against the Nets, won game 1 against Miami, kept it close in game 3 against the Heat, and tonight in game 5, I have to expect a similar result. Ok, that whole odd game thing was just a joke. The Heat are going to win tonight, of that I almost feel confident enough to put money down. But the Bulls are tough and I expect them to fight with everything they've got to try and stay alive. They won't stay alive, and their season will be over, but I think they will keep it respectable and will be within reach in the 4th quarter, maybe a long reach, but it'll still be a reach.
- Confidence: 50%
- NBA: Carlos Boozer first half points
- Boozer scored only 14 points in the first two games combined but has scored 35 in the past two. He is playing better and has actually began to contribute a little bit. The most I can expect from him in the first half is 10 points. Can LeBron get that in the first quarter? Uhh, do I need to drink water to survive? In case you just arrived to this planet, the answer to both those questions is yes. LeBron can easily score 10 points in any and every quarter. But I think tonight the Bulls defense against him will be smothering and although he will figure it out and have another great LeBron game, it may take him a little bit to get going and therefore, he may not get off to a great first quarter.
- Confidence: 50%
- Soccer: Philadelphia Union win/draw
- Both of these teams have similar records. L.A. has a better goal differential at +5 compared to -1, but the Union have either won or drawn most of their home matches, so I'll take the draw option.
- Confidence: 60%
- MLB: Colorado Rockies
- Oh what the heck, I'm taking the Rockies. I really don't know about this one though.
- Confidence: 50%
- NHL: Chicago Blackhawks win by 2+ goals
- Last time a similar prop was featured on here, the 2+ option won the prop easily. Although the Blackhawks have only beaten the Red Wings by 2+ once this season, they just rolled over Minnesota and are well rested for this game. Detroit just finished a grueling 7 game series with Anaheim. The Blackhawks are also at home.
- Confidence: 70%
- NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
- Like I said above, the Blackhawks are well rested and have used the extra time to tinker with their lines. I think they'll be able to give Detroit some looks they haven't seen so far. They will also be fired up by the home crowd.
- Confidence: 65%
- NBA: Any Other Result
- In the first half of this game, the Heat won this prop in the 1st quarter but lost it big time in the 2nd. The Bulls nearly doubled the Heat's points in the 2nd quarter. The Bulls will have the keep this up in order to have a shot at winning this game. They are playing for their playoff lives, and will not go down without a fight.
- Confidence: 65%
- NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder
- For the Thunder, the series is not yet over. All they need to do is win tonight, steal a game in Memphis and then they are back in OKC for a deciding game 7. Ok, so its not gonna be that easy, but the Thunder are desperate tonight. The fact that KD has been able to keep this series close all by himself has been impressive but tonight, he has one other team mate on his side, the OKC crowd. I think those fans at Chesapeake arena will give the boost to the other Thunder players to step up and send the series back to Memphis.
- Confidence: 60%
- MLB: Kansas City Royals
- The line for this game is L.A. -106, which means the odds are pretty even for both teams. The Angels' scheduled starter, Barry Enright, has an ERA of 11.37! I think the Royals take the series from the Angels tonight.
- Confidence: 65%
- MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers
- The line for this game is L.A. -140. Those are pretty good odds in favor of L.A. This is Greinke's first start since breaking his collarbone. He's back ahead of schedule, and it's a good thing for the Dodgers. They could really use him. Fortunately for the Dodgers, the Nationals will most likely still be without Bryce Harper and have just been a little abnormal lately.
- Confidence: 70%
